Man shot near Woodland Hills stadium; Drawing large police response (2024)

A large police presence was responding to the area near the Woodland Hills High School football stadium Friday night.Pittsburgh's Action News 4 saw dozens of police cars from departments including Turtle Creek, Forest Hills, Pittsburgh and state police.Among those at the scene were Allegheny County police, who told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that they were asked to respond to reports of a shooting.Early Saturday morning, Allegheny County police said a man was shot in the leg on the 900 block of Oak Avenue in Turtle Creek. Investigators said first responders were already in the area working the Woodland Hills Football game and heard several shots fired. A man had left the game and was walking in the area when he heard several shots fired and was hit in the leg. The man ran back to the football stadium for help, and the game was suspended by officials. "The Woodland Hills School District would like to thank local law enforcement for their prompt response and district security and staff for helping to clear the stadium as swiftly and as safely as possible. We are grateful that the student-athletes, cheerleaders, marching bands, and spectators from Woodland Hills and Penn Hills are safe."Woodland Hills said parents and students who have questions or need assistance can reach out to school administrators or counselors.This is a developing story. Some in attendance report hearing shots. Others said they heard no shots but saw people running. That includes 15-year-old football player who was on the sidelines at the time.
